Sofia Englund – Assignment 2

This is my final submission for assignment 2. For this week, I’ve mixed the common grounds trend with the geometric trends (primary and diagonal geos).

I was very inspired by Sonya Delaunay, Lillian Farag and Cassie Byrnes for this collection. I’ve attached my inspiration board again, to give some background for the collection, and I’ve also attached a couple of mockups.

Categories: geometrics, abstracts, ikat and stripes.

The most challenging thing with this assignment was to make a cohesive geometric collection and finding the right colour balance across all five patterns. It was also quite challenging to make a geometric half drop repeat in Photoshop 🙂

Great collection Sofia! I love your loose geometrics – they seem really soft. The ikat and striped patterns work really well too. I’d love that dress!

    Hi Sofia,

This is such a great collection! The organic artistic look is different than some of your other more graphic design oriented collections. I like that you are experimenting with styles!

The patterns are very good and work nicely together. My only advice is to try white background on the second one (top) as it will give it fresher look. You can see how some designers from your mood board use white background to make their geometric patterns fresh. I feel the same way about the second and third patterns on the second row – maybe they can have white backgrounds too?

    • Thank you Sabina, I’m so happy to hear that! I had a lot of fun making this and I love pushing myself and experiment. This workshop has been so great in giving you the tools to really think about style, influences, etc. It’s been fantastic! Great idea about the white background, I will definitely try that (and I’m sure it will improve the designs). Many thanks for all your feedback! 🙂
